IMF, State Minister Concerned Over Reduction of Electricity Fee

(Tbilisi February 21, 2003. Civil Georgia) – At the meeting with the Georgian Energy Minister mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expressed concern regarding the reduction of the electricity fee.

?IMF mission is extremely dissatisfied with the frequent change and reduction of the electricity fee,? Davit Mirtskhulava, Energy Minister told the reporters after the meeting with the IMF mission, which pays ten-day visit in Georgia to evaluate economic situation in the country.

In early February Georgian National Energy Regulation Commission proposed to reduced the tax by 1,8 Tetris (0,7 cents), after the Constitutional Court of Georgia ruled positively on Georgian Labor Party?s appeal to reduce electricity fees.

?It is inadmissible when political party in order to gain popularity on the eve of the Parliamentary elections acts against the country?s interests,? Avtandil Jorbenadze told the reporters today referring to the Labor Party.
