Opposition Wants Increased Expenditures in 2003 Draft Budget

(Tbilisi, January 9, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary opposition leaders say their attitude towards the 2003 draft budget will not change in case it does not consider increased expenditures.

In late December the Parliament rejected the draft budget proposed by the government demanding to increase expenditures.

President Shevardnadze announced on January 5 “the draft is the best possible in the existing conditions”.

It is anticipated that the government will submit the new draft budget to the Parliament on January 10, which will be discussed at the Parliamentary special session next week.
