Shevardnadze Dismisses City Council’s Appeal to Sack Tbilisi Mayor

(Tbilisi, November 18, Civil Georgia) – “I do not think it would be admissible to dismiss Vano Zodelava [capital city Mayor],” President Shevardnadze said at the briefing today.

On November 15 the most majority of Tbilisi City Council – Sakrebulo recommended President Shevardnadze to dismiss Tbilisi Mayor.

The President appoints Georgian capital’s Mayor, thus Sakrebulo is unable to impeach him. City Council has already dismissed the Tbilisi government including three deputy prime ministers. Tbilisi Mayor and Vice-Mayor remain on their posts.
