MoD Urges for Money in Vain
(Tbilisi, November 14, Civil Georgia) – The Military Counicl of the Georigan Ministry of Defense (MoD) was held today concerning the inceficiant funding of the armed forces. This was the second meeting in last one month regarding the problem.
The budgetary shortfall of the MoD in 10 months of 2002 consisted more than 11 million Lari (approximately USD 5 million).
The MoD has not received another 11 million Lari for reinforcement of the air defense system as well.
Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Irakli Batiashvili attended the meeting of the Military Council.
Irakli Batiashvili told the reporters that the Committee will discuss the issue with Finance Minister Mirian Gogiashvili.
