Protests Follow Russian Bombs
(Tbilisi, August 23, 2002, Civil Georgia) – Representatives of Political parties and NGOs started to gather in front of the Russian Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, expressing their protest towards Russia bombing Georgian territory.
Common citizens join the protest as well. According to TV Company Rustavi 2, the protesters demand that Russian ambassador meet them so that they can complain to him personally.
The protesters hold posters saying: “Stop Bombing Georgia” and “Hands off Georgia”.
According to preliminary information, 4 Russian jets bombed Itlo gorge, near Pankisi, early in the morning today. A woman and a young men died as a result of the bombardment. 7 wounded were placed in hospital.
According to local information sources, a protest is also held in front of Russian Armed Forces Staff in South Caucasus.
