Shevardnadze Criticizes Abashidze

(Tbilisi, Civil Georgia, July 22, 2002) – President Shevardnadze commented today on Adjarian leader’s accusations that some politicians in Tbilisi hinder his activity to solve the Abkhazian conflict.

“I think Abashidze found it difficult to solve the problem that is why he remembered Tbilisi,” Eduard Shevardnadze said at the news briefing on July 22.

Aslan Abashidze, which is the Georgian President’s personal envoy for the Abkhazian conflict settlement told the Parliamentary leadership on July 21 at the bureau session in Kobuleti, Adjara that some forces are not interested in solving Abkhazian conflict.

Head of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic criticized Tbilisi-based Abkhazian government in exile for trying to solve the problem with force.
