Four Russian Peacekeepers Abducted in Abkhazia
(Tbilisi, March 19, Civil Georgia) – One soldier and three officers of Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone were abducted late on March 18.
Kidnappers are unknown yet. It is thought that incident in connected with the armed clash which occurred last week between peacekeepers and unknown fighters, Russians claim they were Georgian guerrillas.
Reports say that peacekeepers detained one fighter and handed over to the Abkhazians. It is anticipated that Russian peacekeepers’ kidnappers will demand exchange of detained persons.
