(Tbilisi, March 9, Civil Georgia) – “Georgia failed to fulfill many recommendations of the World Bank, but I will continue asking for further financial assistance,” Georgian President Shevardnadze stated after the meeting Judy O’Connor, the World Bank South Caucasus Country Unit Director.
Eduard Shevardnadze said that Georgian economy is recovering and the World Bank should take this into consideration.
“The job of World Bank is to reduce poverty in its member countries. I have to say that Georgia has not been successful in that objective,” Judy O’Connor stated on March 8.
Judy O’Connor confirmed that the World Bank intends to reduce financial assistance to Georgia by 20% from 2003. Reason is not passing reforms and unsuccessful fight against corruption by the Georgian government.
