Georgian-Abkhazian Talks on Recent Raids of Abkhazians

(Tbilisi, January 17, Civil Georgia) – Representatives of the Georgian government and unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia hold meeting in Gali district of Abkhazia on January 17.

Meeting is initiated by the UN General Secretary’s special envoy in Georgia Deter Boden. Representative of CIS peacekeeping troops in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone participate in negotiations as well.

Negotiators discuss the raid on Georgian village of Gali district. One Georgian was killed and 9 arrested on January 14 as the result of raid.

Abkhazian side claims that the raid was part of the operation against the Georgian guerrillas. Georgian side demands from the Abkhazians to release arrested persons.
