Electricity Contract with Armenia to be Extended

(Tbilisi. January 3. Civil Georgia) – American energy distribution company AES-Telasi negotiates with Armenia to continue buying electricity for Georgia, representative of the company Tina Stambolishvili stated today.

Current greement expires on January 3. AES spokesperson stated that the company expects to prolong the agreement at least for an additional month.

Armenia agreed to supply electricity to Georgia after the explosion at “AES-Mtkvari” power plant owned by the American company AES on December 22, 2001 caused blackouts in Georgian capital, Tbilisi.

Energy crisis in Georgia was deepened by failure of the high-voltage power line used to provide electricity from Georgia on January 2, 2002.
