Shevardnadze Defends Internal Affairs Minister

President Shevardnadze stated that the Internal Affairs Ministry has nothing common with the situation concerning the independent Rustavi 2.

During the National Security Council meeting held on October 31 Internal Affairs Minister Kakha Targamadze announced about the readiness to resign, “but he has nothing to do with the events regarding Rustavi 2”, Eduard Shevardnadze announced.

On November 1, Parliament is to hold special session to discuss actions of the State Security Ministry against Rustavi 2.

Zurab Zhvania, Chairman of the Parliament, is sure that the responsibility of Internal Affairs, State Security Ministers and the Prosecutor’s General will be explored and stated on the Parliamentary special session on November 1.

The parliamentarians supported creation of a special commission, which would develop a legal basis to demand political responsibility of the power ministers in record-short 2-3 days period.
