Russia Will Withdraw Peacekeepers from Abkhazia – Vladimir Putin

“In case Georgian government takes all the responsibly on itself expressing it clearly to the whole society and its own people we will withdraw CIS peacekeepers from Abkhazian conflict zone”, President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin told the Ria Novosti on 12 October.

“Russia views the uptight relations between Abkhazia and Georgia as Georgia’s state problem”, Putin stated. He went on to say that “Russian state supports the territorial unity of Georgia” and Moscow “does not intend to interfere in conflicts existing on another country’s territory”.

Russia’s leader presumes that Georgia leaving the CIS will not hurt Russian-Georgian relations. “The CIS is not a Russian organization, it is international and Russia does not insist on anybody being it’s member”, Vladimir Putin stated.
