CoE Human Rights Chief Meets Russian Deputy FM

Grigory Karasin, Russian deputy foreign minister met with Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe (CoE) human rights commissioner, in Moscow on December 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

“During the conversation the sides discussed a wide range of issues, concerning the settlement of consequences of Georgian-South Ossetian conflict in light of the Commissioner’s recent trip to the region, as well as the prospects of international presence in Trans-Caucasus,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It also said that Karasin and Hammarberg “underlined the need of resolving humanitarian problems, including issues related with confidence and reciprocal handover of persons detained by the Georgian and South Ossetian sides.”
