Sokhumi Says Tbilisi Pulling Out from Negotiation Process

President Saakashvili?s speech at the UN General Assembly Session was an indication of the Georgian side?s intention to pull out from the Georgian-Abkhaz negotiating process, the breakaway Abkhaz Foreign Ministry said in a statement on September 25.

?Mr. Saakashvili?s speech proved once again that Tbilisi tries to portray the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict as a conflict between Georgia and Russia. This kind of approach is an attempt to put responsibility for the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia [in the early 90s] on someone else,? Apsnipress news agency reported, quoting a statement from the unrecognized republic?s Foreign Ministry.

The statement says that Saakashvili?s speech is a sign that ?unfortunately, Georgia is not yet ready for a peaceful co-existence with Abkhazia.?

The Abkhaz Foreign Ministry also stated that only the Russian peacekeeping forces can serve as guarantors for the non-resumption of hostilities in the conflict zone.
