Kokoity Officially Nominated as S.Ossetia Presidential Candidate

South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity has been officially nominated as a presidential candidate in November 12 elections in breakaway South Ossetia, the unrecognized republic?s Press and Information Committee reported on September 20.

Head of the Tbilisi-based NGO Georgian-Ossetian Union ?Iber-Ironi? Maia Chigoeva-Tsaboshvili announced her intention to run for the South Ossetian presidency on September 15. However, she has yet to undergo registration procedures in the breakaway region?s Central Election Commission.

No other candidate has yet announced plans to run in the presidential elections, which have been condemned by the Georgian authorities as illegal.
