Sokhumi Denies Shelling of Kodori

Authorities in breakaway Abkhazia have denied claims from officials in Tbilisi that Abkhaz troops fired GRAD missiles towards the Tbilisi-controlled upper Kodori Gorge on October 25.

Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh told Interfax news agency that it was a provocation staged by the Georgian side. ?We were expected provocations of this kind and we have warned the international community about this,? Bagapsh said.

In a separate statement made at a news conference in Sokhumi on October 25, Bagapsh reiterated that Sokhumi will resume talks with Tbilisi only after Georgia withdraws its troops and the Abkhaz government-in-exile headquarters from upper Kodori Gorge, Apsnipress news agency reported.

He also warned foreign diplomats to refrain from meeting with the representatives of, as he put it, the ?puppet government? in upper Kodori Gorge.
