Khaindrava Criticizes Parliament for ‘Putting Pressure’ on Cabinet

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava criticized once again on October 28 the Parliament for, as he described, “putting unjustified pressure” on the cabinet of ministers.

“The Parliament constantly puts pressure on the cabinet, which I think is unfair and unjustified. If they [parliamentarians] have complaints against us [cabinet members], we are ready to put forth our arguments. I think that the cabinet – the one which was led by Zurab Zhvania [Georgia’s late Prime Minister], as well as the one led by Zurab Nogaideli [the current Prime Minister] is doing a good job,” Khaindrava said at a news conference, adding that the confrontation is inadmissible.

Although Khaindrava did not specify more details about this “confrontation” some Georgian media sources speculate that disagreements persists between the Prime Minister and Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Mikheil Machavariani.

“This [about existing confrontation between the cabinet and the Parliament] is an opinion of just one individual [Giorgi Khaindrava]. There is no confrontation,” Machavariani told Imedi television on October 28.

Giorgi Khaindrava has already once slammed the Parliament for its demand to sack ex-Foreign Minister Salome Zourabichvili. He said on October 25 that Zourabichvili’s dismissal was “a mistake” and described accusations voiced by the Parliament towards Zourabichvili as “incorrect.”
