Turkish Vessel Seized near Abkhazia

The Georgian coast guard seized a Turkish cargo vessels en route to breakaway Abkhazia, near the Abkhaz town of Bichvinta (or Pitsunda) on July 3, the Georgian Border Guard Department reported.

The vessel was loaded with food products and construction materials.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on June 28 reiterating that the Abkhaz portion of the maritime border remains closed to all forms of maritime traffic. This decision by Tbilisi was condemned by the Abkhaz side as a form of ?interference in Abkhazia?s internal affairs.? This decision has also been condemned by the Russian side.
