U.S. President Nominates New Ambassador to Georgia

U.S. President George W. Bush nominated John F. Tefft as the new Ambassador to Georgia, the U.S. President?s Press Secretary?s Office reported on May 17.


John F. Tefft, a native of Virginia, currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the Department of State.


Ambassador Tefft previously served as the International Affairs Advisor at the National War College. Earlier in his career, he served as Ambassador to Lithuania.


The term of office of outgoing Ambassador Richard Miles, who has served in Georgia since April 2002, has already expired.
