Saakashvili: U.S. President’s Visit is Historic

President Saakashvili reiterated the importance of the forthcoming visit of U.S. President George W. Bush to Tbilisi, scheduled for May 9-10, and described it as “an historic event,” but added that there should be no illusion that this visit will “solve all of Georgia’s problems.”

“The leader of the greatest democratic county arrives in Georgia. This confirms that the United States recognizes the democratic achievements of Georgia. The fact that the U.S. President arrives in Tbilisi proves Georgia’s special role and special mission in the region,” President Saakashvili said on May 3 in his address to the Georgian nation.

The Georgian President said that Bush arrives in a country which is recognized by the United States and the entire world as “an example of democracy in the region.”

“However, we should not harbor the illusion that Bush’s visit will solve all the problems existing in the country. We should do everything ourselves. The U.S President arrives to support freedom, democracy and the future of this country,” Saakashvili added.
