Russian Energy Giant Eyes Power Grid in Adjara

Russia’s state-owned energy giant Unified Energy System (UES) intends to offer a privatization bid for an electricity distribution company in Adjara Autonomous Republic, RIA Novosti news agency reported on May 3.

But Georgian Deputy Energy Minister Aleko Khetaguri told Civil Georgia on May 3 that the electricity distribution company in Adjara has not yet been put on the privatization list.

The Georgian Energy Ministry announced on May 2 that the government has begun accepting privatization bids for the United Distribution Company (UDC), which distributes electricity in western Georgia, as well as for five hydro power plants, but the power grid in Adjara is not on this list.
