Georgians Arrested in Belgium

Officials say that the seven Georgians that were arrested by the Belgium police in Antwerp recently remain in custody.

Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili said at a news conference on March 28, that the case allegedly involves the selling of cars stolen from Belgium in Georgia. He also said that the Georgian side is cooperating with the Belgium police in their investigation.

But Georgia?s Ambassador to Belgium Konstantine Zaldastanishvili told Rustavi 2 television that so far no formal charges have been brought against the detained Georgians.

Officials also say that sixteen Georgians were initially arrested, but nine of them were soon released because ?evidence [against them] was lacking.?
