Lithuanian Prime Minister Visits Georgia

Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, who is paying a three-day official visit to Georgia on January 28-30, met with his Georgian counterpart, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, as well as President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Parliamentary Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday.
Kvirikashvili and Skvernelis discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the spheres of economy, agriculture, renewable energy, transport and tourism. The possibilities of establishing transport ties between the ports of Anaklia and Klaipėda, as well as launching direct flights between Tbilisi and Vilnius, were also discussed.
At the meeting, Skvernelis reiterated his country’s support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while Kvirikashvili hailed Lithuania as Georgia’s “closest ally and friend.”
“Lithuania’s role in the process of Georgia’s rapprochement to the European Union is invaluable,” Prime Minister Kvirikashvili noted, adding that the country’s strong support to Georgia’s NATO integration was “also extremely important.”
Later on January 29, the Lithuanian Prime Minister held talks with President Giorgi Margvelashvili. There, Saulius Skvernelis stressed Lithuania’s appreciation of Georgia’s participation in the NATO peacekeeping operations and expressed support to its integration in the EU and NATO, according to the Lithuanian government’s press office.
On January 29, Saulius Skvernelis met with Parliament Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze as well.
The Lithuanian Prime Minister will visit the IDP settlement in the village of Prezeti and meet with the representatives of the EU Monitoring Mission to Georgia on January 30.
