‘Our Duty is to Respect Election Results’ – Burjanadze

Acting President Nino Burjanadze said both the authorities and the opposition were to thank for ensuring that the January 5 election was held in a calm atmosphere, despite some problems.

“This is a huge achievement for all of us. This is a huge achievement for the authorities and the opposition, because despite serious political pressure and the high political temperature, we have managed to hold the election in a civilized manner,” Burjanadze said. “Now, our duty is to respect the results of the election, to respect the will of the people. If there are some complaints, we should act in accordance with the legal procedures.”

Burjanadze was speaking with reporters after meeting with the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Ilia II.
