Burjanadze Says Security Guarantees Needed for Refugees’ Repatriation
(Tbilisi, February 13, Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze stated at the Parliamentary session on February 13, that Chechen refugees living in Pankisi gorge will not be repatriated in case the Russian side does not safeguard their security.
Several MPs expressed concern that the repatriation process may grow into deportation of the Chechen refugees.
Nino Burjanadze state that refugees’ return to their homes is in Georgia’s interest, but official Tbilisi should demand security guarantees from Russia.
Russian delegation will visit Georgia on February 14 to discuss issues regarding the refugee repatriation with the Georgian authorities.
