Georgia’s Another Note of Protest to Russia

(Tbilisi. November 16. Civil Georgia) – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia will not recognize the Gudauta military base liquidation until Russia has fulfilled the following demands of the Georgian side: international observation of situation in Gudauta base, Russia is due to submit to Georgia documents legally confirming Georgia’s ownership over the base.

Russia claims that military hardware is pulled out from Gudauta base, and only 600 soldiers are left to protect the base. The Georgian side also protests against this and demands to diminish 600 soldiers to 100.

According to the 1999 OSCE Istanbul summit Russia had to withdraw military hardware from Gudauta base, located in breakaway Republic of Abkhazia, before July 1, 2001.
