Local By-Elections for Gamgebeli and Mayor in Six Localities Set for Oct.8

Local by-elections for gamgebeli and mayoral offices will be held in six localities simultaneously with the parliamentary elections on October 8, according to a decree released by President Giorgi Margvelashvili on Friday.

Elections of head (gamgebeli) of municipalities will be held in Bolnisi of Shida Kartli region; Zugdidi and Tsalenjikha of Samegrelo region; Chiatura and Kharagauli of Imereti region.

Gamgebeli offices in these municipalities became vacant after ruling GDDG party named incumbents as its majoritarian MP candidates in the respective single-mandate constituencies.

Mayoral election for the town of Akhaltsikhe in Samtskhe-Javakheti region will also be held on October 8.

The mayoral office in Akhaltsikhe also became vacant after the incumbent mayor, Giorgi Kopadze, was named as GDDG’s majoritarian MP candidate in a single-mandate constituency covering Akhaltsikhe and Adigeni municipalities.
