New Education Minister Appointed

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili appointed Aleksandre Jejelava as a new Education Minister replacing Tamar Sanikidze, who held the post since July, 2013.

PM Kvirikashvili said on June 3 that Jejelava, a founder and chairman of a Tbilisi-based non-profit training provider, Management Academy, is a “valuable and important gain for our team.”

“He has a very good vision about future development of the education system… and I deemed it necessary to name him as the Education Minister,” Kvirikashvili said of Jejelava.
 
“Today we really need renewed vision about development of our education sector, which holds the key for our future development,” the PM added.

He also said that with his 20-year experience in management, training, vocational education and information technology, Jejelava fits well to government’s education system reform plans.

This is the first change in the cabinet since Kvirikashvili became the PM in late December.

The PM thanked ex-education minister Tamar Sanikidze for her service; he added that she “remains in our team” and would continue working on a new position, which he has not specified.
