Ukrainian President, Georgian PM Meet in Munich

Georgian PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili met President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the margins of the Munich Security Conference on February 13.

The Ukrainian president’s office said that “topical issues of bilateral agenda” were discussed and it was agreed “to intensify economic cooperation, particularly to develop the route of a new ‘silk road’, and to hold the regular session of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation.” Visa liberalisation with the EU for Georgia and Ukraine was also discussed, it said.

The Georgian PM’s office said that “human rights situation in the occupied regions” was also discussed.

The Ukrainian president’s office said that Poroshenko thanked Georgia for sending humanitarian aid and for providing rehabilitation courses to wounded Ukrainian soldiers. It said that President Poroshenko invited the Georgian PM to visit Ukraine.

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze, Defense Minister Tina Khidasheli, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, GD MP Tedo Japaridze, and Georgia’s ambassador to Germany Lado Chanturia were also present at the meeting.

In Munich the Georgian PM also met Lithuanian, Estonian, Bulgarian, and Slovenian presidents, as well as his counterparts from Norway and Montenegro, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini. The Georgian delegation also met Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
