Police Say 30 People in Samtskhe-Javakheti Voluntarily Turn in Munitions
Thirty local residents from Ninotsminda, Akhalkalaki, Aspindza, Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni and Borjomi municipalities of Samtskhe-Javakheti region have handed over large amount of unlawfully held munitions to the local police, the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Saturday.
It said that total of 8,041 bullets for various types of firearms; 77 hand grenades; 8 sawed-off shotguns; 400 grams of explosive TNT; an anti-tank mine; 4 smoke bombs were among the munitions turned in voluntarily to the local police.
This is the fourth case of voluntary hand over of large amount of munitions in Samtskhe-Javakheti region reported by the Interior Ministry this year.
In three previous cases this year total of 13,063 bullets for various types of firearms; 254 hand grenades; 22 land mines; 1.5 kg of TNT explosive; over 20 sawed-off shotguns, and 17 rounds for grenade-launchers were turned in to the police.
Four such cases of handing over of large amount of munitions in Samtskhe-Javakheti region were reported by the Interior Ministry last year.
