Warehouse Fire Kills Two in Tbilisi

A fire at a warehouse in Tbilisi’s Didube district killed two people and injured several others on August 4.

Large fire, that was apparently fueled by paint and plastics, sent plumes of black smoke into the air that were visible from various parts of the capital city late on Tuesday afternoon.

Bodies of the two men, who were working in the warehouse on Gudauta street at the time when the fire broke out, were recovered by the rescuers late on Tuesday, several hours after the fire was extinguished.

At least three people required hospitalization with non-life threatening burn injuries from fire which broke in the warehouse for construction materials. Two firefighters, who suffered minor injuries, also required medical treatment, officials said.

The fire also spread to nearby separate warehouse, where materials belonging to telecommunications company, Caucasus Online, were stored.

A helicopter was deployed, dropping water from a bucket, to help 125 firefighters battle the blaze. The helicopter was filling up bucket with water from nearby Mtkvari river.

The fire, which broke out late on Tuesday afternoon, was mostly extinguished by the evening.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined
