Four New Parliamentary Committee Chairs Elected
Parliament elected on April 2 new chairpersons of four parliamentary committees – all four are from the Georgian Dream majority group, three of them from the GD faction and one from the Republican faction.
Chairmanship in committees for European integration, budgetary issues and environment were held up until late February by lawmakers from Free Democrats opposition party, which quit GD ruling coalition in November.
GD MP from the Republican Party, Tina Khidasheli, was elected as new chairperson of the committee on European integration, replacing MP Victor Dolidze; MP Tamaz Mechiauri of the GD faction was elected as chairman of committee on budget and finances, replacing MP Davit Onoprishvili, and MP Gia Zhorzholiani of GD faction became new chairman of committee on environment protection and natural resources, replacing MP Gia Tsagareishvili.
MP Teimuraz Tchkuaseli of GD faction was elected as new chairman of parliamentary committee on diaspora and Caucasus, replacing GD MP Gubaz Sanikidze of National Forum, who was promoted as vice speaker of parliament in February.
