MP Quits UNM Parliamentary Minority Group

A majoritarian MP Giorgi Gozalishvili has quit the parliamentary minority group, formed by President Saakashvili’s United National Movement (UNM) party.

Gozalishvili, as an UNM member, was elected in Lagodekhi single-mandate constituency.

With Gozalishvili’s withdrawal, UNM parliamentary minority group now has 59 MPs, although initially UNM endorsed in the Parliament total of 65 MPs.

Five MPs, also majoritarian lawmakers elected as UNM members, refused to join the parliamentary minority group on the very first session of the newly elected legislative body on October 21.

“Right now I am an independent MP,” Gozalishvili told Civil.ge on October 29, suggesting that as an “independent” lawmaker he will be able to work more efficiently for his constituency.
