EU Hails Legislative Amendment on Religious Groups Legal Status
Heads of missions of the EU-member states in Georgia have welcomed legislative amendments allowing religious minorities to be registered as legal entities of public law.
“The freedom of belief is indeed a fundamental human right and a core European value,” reads a written statement released on July 14 by EU ambassador in Tbilisi, Philip Dimitrov, on behalf of other Tbilisi-based diplomats from EU-member states.
“We also welcome the position of the Georgian Orthodox Church that gives support to the equality of all faiths before the law, as stated in the recent Decision of the Holy Synod,” it says.
