Final Vote Tally of Tbilisi Approved

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has approved final vote tally for the May 30 local elections in the capital city as well as the results of by-elections in three single-mandate constituencies.  

The final results confirm Gigi Ugulava’s re-election as Tbilisi mayor with 55.2% of votes.

The final vote tally also confirmed early results, bringing no changes in expected distribution of seats in the Tbilisi City Council. As a result five parties and blocs, which cleared a 4% election threshold will take 25 seats in the capital city’s council contested under the party vote system: National Movement (52.5%) – 14 seats; Alliance for Georgia (17.9%) – 5 seats; Christian-Democratic Movement (12.05%) – 3 seats; National Council (8.2%) – 2 seats; Industrialists (6.2%) – 1 seat.

All 25 majoritarian contests in the single-mandate constituencies were won by the ruling National Movement Party candidates, meaning that the ruling party will have 39 seats out of 50 in the Tbilisi City Council.

According to CEC, out of 981,505 registered voters in Tbilisi, 457,903 (46.7%) turned out at polling stations on May 30 and total of 1,740,652 voters (49% of voters) took part in the elections throughout the country.

According to the Central Election Commission, district commissions have also summarized the results of local elections in the provinces and the results will be posted on the CEC website gradually. 

According to the law, the first sessions of the elected municipalities should be held within 30 days after approval of the final vote tally.

As far as the by-elections in three single-mandate constituencies are concerned, the following candidates from the ruling party will fill three vacant majoritarian seats in the Parliament:  Andro Alavidze, who won the race in Tbilisi’s Chugureti single-mandate constituency; Giorgi Chiviashvili in Gurjaani, eastern Georgia and Gocha Shanidze in Ozurgeti, western Georgian.
