Saakashvili Speaks on Phone with British PM
In a phone conversation President Saakashvili congratulated David Cameron on his election as British PM, the Georgian President’s spokesperson said on May 29.
“President Saakashvili recalled those hard times when during the war in August, 2008 David Cameron was one of the first politicians who arrived in Georgia for support,” Manana Manjgaladze said.
Cameron visited Tbilisi shortly after the war on August 16.
The spokesperson also said that the Georgian leadership “shares many common principles with PM Cameron’s cabinet members.”
“During the conversation the British PM stressed on support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and talked on occupation [of Abkhazia and South Ossetia] by Russia,” she said and added that PM Cameron “expressed desire to meet with President Saakashvili in the nearest future.”
