Bakradze Visits Afghanistan
Parliamentary delegation, led by chairman Davit Bakradze, left for Afghanistan early on April 15 to visit a company-size Georgian infantry unit deployed in Kabul since last November under the French command.
The Parliament’s press office said that the delegation also includes parliamentary majority leader Petre Tsiskarishvili; ruling party lawmaker Soso Kutateladze, as well as MPs from parliamentary minority group – Giorgi Targamadze, leader of Christian-Democratic Movement and Gia Tortladze of Democratic Party of Georgia.
Sources say that the delegation is also expected to meet with the Afghan President Hamid Karzai during the one-day visit.
On April 7 Georgia sent 31st infantry battalion to Afghanistan to serve alongside with the U.S. marines in the province of Helmand, bringing total number of Georgian troops in Afghanistan to 950.
