Draft of Election Code Amendments to be Initiated Next Week
Draft amendments to the election code, elaborated based on agreement reached among most of the parties from the electoral reform working group, will be initiated in the Parliament from the next week, a ruling party lawmaker, Pavle Kublashvili, who chairs parliamentary committee for legal affairs, told the public TV on November 26.
The amendments will be based on the set of proposals, involving, among other issues, a 30% threshold for electing Tbilisi mayor – the proposal which is strongly opposed by Alliance for Georgia, whose leader Irakli Alasania plans to run for Tbilisi mayor. Alliance for Georgia was insisting on having at least a 45% threshold.
