Activist Sentenced to Seven Years in Jail

Tbilisi City Court sentenced Levan Gogichaishvili, one of the key activists from pro-opposition youth groups, to seven years in jail.

The court found Gogichaishvili guilty of inflicting injures through stabbing a young man after a friend’s birthday party outside Tbilisi in June. Gogichaishvili denied charges and his lawyers said the case was fabricated through prosecution’s pressure on a victim’s family “forcing them to give false evidence”.
