UN SG Instructs to Cease Georgia Mission
In accordance to a failure of the Security Council to extend the UN observer mission’s mandate due to Russia’s veto, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon instructed his Special Representative for Georgia, Johan Verbeke, to take measure required to cease the mission.
“The Secretary-General regrets that the Security Council has been unable to reach agreement on the basis of a package of practical and realistic proposals he submitted to the Security Council aimed at contributing to a stabilization of the situation on the ground,” UN Secretary General’s spokesperson said.
