Eight New Ambassadors Appointed
The Georgian parliament approved eight new ambassadors at a session on March 13.
Paata Gaprindashvili was approved as the ambassador to Austria, as well as Georgia’s envoy to OSCE and Vienna-based international organizations. He replaced Victor Dolidze, who resigned a month ago to join Irakli Alasania’s opposition movement. After Dolidze’s resignation, Gaprindashvili served as Georgia’s acting ambassador in Vienna. In the past he worked at the National Security Council and in 2004 he was a deputy defense minister.
Ruslan Abashidze was approved as the Georgian ambassador to Estonia. Previously, he served as the Deputy State Minister for Reintegration.
Irakli Janjgava was approved as the Georgian ambassador to Iran. Previously, he served as Georgian ambassador to Egypt and Syria. Gocha Japaridze has become Georgian ambassador to Egypt and Syria.
Ekaterine Mikadze, previously Georgia’s ambassador to Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon, was approved as ambassador to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and United Arab Emirates. Mikadze was replaced by Zurab Eristavi as ambassador to Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon. Previously, Eristavi served as Prime Minister’s adviser in foreign relations issues.
Giorgi Kublashvili has become Georgian ambassador to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and Ioseb Chakhvashvili was approved as Georgia’s ambassador to Turkmenistan and Afghanistan replacing Alexi Petriashvili. The latter has also joined the Alasania’s political team.
