EU’s War Inquiry Mission Visits Abkhazia

EU-funded mission, which probes into the August war, met with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh and other officials of the breakaway region on March 2.

Vyacheslav Chirikba, the Abkhaz leader’s foreign policy adviser, said in remarks aired by the Abkhaz television, that the Abkhaz officials laid out Sokhumi’s position during the meeting.

The mission, led by Swiss diplomat, Heidi Tagliavini, is expected to present its report to EU, OSCE, Georgia and Russia on July 31, 2009; but the mission could be extended beyond that deadline if necessary.
