War Commission Asks NSC to Declassify Some Testimonials
A parliamentary commission, which studied the August war, requested the National Security Council on December 25 to declassify some of the testimonials of senior officials, which have been delivered before the commission behind the closed door sessions.
Although most part of hearings was held publicly, which were aired live by the public TV’s second channel, some hearings were held behind the closed door when the matters concerned, as officials put it, “sensitive state secret.”
Apart of the transcripts of those closed-door sessions, the commission has also requested NSC to consider declassifying those documents, which have been submitted to the commission by the authorities and which currently are not publicly available. One of such document is President Saakashvili’s letter to his Russia counterpart in June laying out Tbilisi’s proposals on Abkhazia, a commission member, MP Giorgi Gabashvili of the ruling party, said.
