Georgian Foreign Minister Nominates New Ambassadors
Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze has nominated Alexandre Lomaia, the secretary of National Security Council, and Baku Kutelia, the former deputy defense minister, as Georgian ambassadors to the UN and the United States, respectively.
Speaking at the press conference on December 16, Grigol Vashadze also said that Giorgi Badridze was nominated as the Georgian ambassador to Great Britain, replacing Gela Charkviani. The latter was appointed as the Georgian ambassador in the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations based in the United Kingdom.
Tariel Lebanidze, who had already held this position previously, was nominated as the Georgian ambassador to Turkey. This position has remained vacant since former ambassador Grigol Mgaloblishvili was appointed as Prime Minister last month.
Grigol Katamadze, who has also held this position previously, was nominated as the ambassador to Ukraine, replacing Merab Antadze. The latter was appointed as the Georgian ambassador to GUAM.
Earlier on December 16 the Georgian Parliament approved Nino Nakashidze, a former lawmaker who served as chairperson of the committee for Euro-Atlantic integration issues in the previous parliament, as ambassador to the Czech Republic.
Also on December 16, Vladimer Konstantinidi, Georgia’s former consul to Israel, was appointed as ambassador to Cyprus and Vakhtang Jaoshvili, who has worked for the Foreign Ministry since 1997, has become an ambassador to Israel. Zviad Chumburidze was appointed as Georgia’s ambassador to Hungary; he will also cover Serbia.
The Georgian Foreign Minister also said at the press conference that the ambassadorial positions in Estonia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan remained vacant.
