EU Special Envoy Meets FM over Geneva Talks

EU special envoy for the Georgian crisis, Pierre Morel, met with Georgian Foreign Minister, Grigol Vashadze, in Tbilisi on December 12, following his trips to Sokhumi and Moscow.

Morel, who is a co-chairman of the Geneva talks, is engaged in a shuttle diplomacy between the parties to prepare the next meeting in Geneva scheduled for December 17-18.

He told journalists after talks with Vashadze that he had “a very productive meeting.”

“There is general trend to concentrate on very concrete operations, dimensions that are preventing and settlement of incidents,” the EU diplomat said. “Situation remains complicated, tense and therefore the first thing to do, to start with [is] to prevent as much as possible, or to settle as quickly as possible any incident taking place on the administrative border lines. I think we can grasp an opportunity for some kind of [incident prevention] mechanism and this will be the main target of the next session [in Geneva].”
