Ex-UN Envoy to Georgia to Chair International Probe into August War
The European Union’s foreign ministers have selected Heidi Tagliavini, a Swiss diplomat, to chair an international investigative commission, which would probe into the causes of the August war between Russia and Georgia, Deutsche Welle reported.
Tagliavini served as UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Georgia in 2002-2006.
Deutsche Welle reported that German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, urged both Moscow and Tbilisi to cooperate fully with Tagliavini, whose mandate has yet to be determined.
