EU Monitors Condemn Dvani Blast
Hansjörg Haber, head of EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), said explosion at the South Ossetian administrative border on Monday morning, which killed two Georgian policemen and injured three others, “risks escalating the still tense situation” in the area.
EUMM said that improvised explosive device went off in the Georgian village of Dvani, which is located in the south-west from Tskhinvali.
“The explosion reportedly was accompanied by gunfire,” EUMM said in a statement. “A patrol of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) has been on the spot to verify the situation.”
“We are very concerned to learn about today’s attack in Dvani that killed two Georgian police officers and injured three. We send our condolences to their families and hope that the injured policemen get well soon.
“This attack by an improvised explosive device is an unacceptable breach of the Sarkozy-Medvedev-Agreement. It has to be thoroughly investigated on both sides and the authors duly prosecuted,” Hansjörg Haber, the head of the mission, said. “We repeat our call on all sides to prevent further provocations.”
