Russia Appoints Ambassadors to Sokhumi, Tskhinvali
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev appointed ambassadors to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Semyon Grigorev and Elbrus Kargyev, respectively.
“I want to say that you are starting your tenure in a rather difficult period,” Medvedev told the diplomats at a meeting on October 24. “These are young states where much is still to be done – even from the point of view of the statehood of these new entities under international law. And I want you to provide assistance to our allies in this respect as well.”
Both Grigorev and Kargyev are career diplomats. The latter worked for the Russian Foreign Ministry’s CIS department until recently, and Grigorev was involved Abkhaz conflict related matters at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
