GNCC Confirms Readiness to Modify Maestro TV’s License
Legal procedures required to modify Maestro TV’s licence allowing the television station to air political programs are expected to be finalised by the end of November, Giorgi Arveladze, the head of the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC), said.
A verbal agreement between Maestro TV and the GNCC was reached in talks mediated by the Anti-Crisis Council on October 13.
Maestro TV must go to the Court of Appeals – probably this week – and appeal against an earlier ruling by the Tbilisi City Court, which upheld the GNCC’s April decision not to issue Maestro TV with a license to broadcast political programs. The sides, in accordance with the verbal agreement, will make “a formal deal” wherein the GNCC will agree to modify the station’s licence, followed by a formal request to the GNCC by Maestro TV to modify the license. Within 35 days, in accordance with the law, the GNCC will make a formal ruling on the matter.
Maestro TV currently holds a license to broadcast only entertainment programs.
