French Foreign Minister to Visit Georgia
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner will arrive in Georgia on October 9, the Georgian Foreign Ministry told Civil.Ge.
Kouchner is expected to hold talks with President Saakashvili.
On October 10 Kouchner will visit Gori and assess the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in terms of the withdrawal of Russian forces from the so-called buffer zones. The Russians are committed to withdrawal by October 10.
This is Kouchner’s fourth visit to Georgia since the war. France, which holds the EU presidency, mediated the ceasefire between Russia and Georgia.
Implementation of the ceasefire agreement is thought to be on the agenda at a meeting in Evian between the French and Russian presidents, Nicolas Sarkozy and Dmitry Medvedev, respectyively.
